The VEEM Ltd Prop Puller is a precision mechanical tool designed specifically for inboard propeller removal and installation on tapered shafts.
Core function (what it actually does)
At a technical level, it replaces traditional pullers (chains, jaws, or hammering) with a controlled interference-fit system:
- Applies even axial force directly down the shaft taper
- Seats the propeller properly onto the taper during install
- Breaks the taper fit cleanly during removal
- Eliminates shock loads to drivetrain components
- The goal is simple: remove/install props without damaging the shaft, keyway, or blades.
How the VEEM puller works (mechanically)
This is where it stands apart from standard pullers:
- Uses inner + outer tapered rings
- Tightening bolts converts torque → radial clamping force
- That creates high friction grip on the shaft hub
- Generates massive axial force (up to ~40 tons) to move the prop
Key implication:
You’re not pulling from the blades — you’re pushing/pulling through the hub centerline, which is the correct load path.
Key advantages (why it’s considered a “pro-grade” tool)
- No blade contact No chains, hooks, or jaw arms Eliminates risk of bending or nicking blades
- Even load distribution Prevents: Keyway deformation Shaft galling Hub distortion
- High-force capability Can break extremely tight taper fits Suitable for: Large inboard props NiBral / CNC-machined wheels High horsepower applications
- Also acts as a prop pusher (install tool) Forces prop fully onto taper Reduces: Prop slip on shaft Vibration issues Premature key damage
- Compact + shaft-specific Sized by shaft diameter (SAE standard) Typical range: 1.5" → 6" shafts
