It is a self-contained oil supply that lubricates the seals, shaft and bearing surfaces with almost no friction or wear. The Norscot Dripless Shaft Seal oil reservoir level can easily be visually checked on a regular basis. This Propeller Shaft Seal design was developed using existing, proven technology so feel comfortable leaving your boat unattended for long periods of time so cruise with these maintenance-free shaft seal for many, many years.

Product Details

• Design: The system features a marine-grade bronze housing that contains three nitrile rubber, stainless steel spring-loaded lip seals. It is attached to the vessel's stern tube by a flexible log hose and hose clamps, allowing it to "float" with the shaft and reduce misalignment problems.
• Lubrication: Unlike water-injected systems, the Norscot seal uses a separate reservoir filled with ATF to lubricate the seals, which significantly reduces friction and wear and keeps the bilge dry. A slight weeping action of the fluid occurs when the shaft spins to ensure lubrication.
• Safety Features: The design uses close tolerances, and even if all three seals were to fail completely, the system would leak less than one gallon of water per minute, an amount easily handled by a standard bilge pump.
• Maintenance: It is a low-maintenance solution, primarily requiring only occasional checks of the ATF reservoir level. The seals themselves can last for many years, with some reported instances of lasting 20 years or more.
